Meet the Altar Guild
| This month we introduce Brenda Angall, who with her two daughters,
Soscha and Merinda, relocated to Florida in November of 2003.
A relative told her about our parish, and Brenda chose St. Matthew's
as her church home after only two visits. She says, "I
was touched by the friendly atmosphere shown to myself and family.
After my second attendance, I knew that St. Matthew's had become
my third Christian home." |
 |
Originally from British Guyana, Brenda was baptized
at a Pilgrim Holiness Church and began attending the Anglican Church
there in her teens at Christ the King. It was there that her first
daughter was baptized. After migrating to Long Island, NY in 1991,
she joined the Episcopal Church of the Messiah, where her second
daughter was baptized, and where the family became quite active
in the adult and junior choirs, altar guild and social activities.
Brenda has had a wide and varied career, both in Guyana and the
States. She spent her early career working for the National Library
and the Ministry of Education. She spent the last several years
in Guyana working for the Guyana Mining Enterprise, Ltd. which manufactures
bauxite and alumina for export, and is one of that country's most
important industries. In New York, Brenda held clerical positions
and worked as a sales associate for J.C. Penny.
Although she has been at St. Matthew's a relatively short time,
Brenda has jumped in to sing in the Choir, as well as serving on
the Altar Guild. About her service, she says, "As a Christian, my
main objective is to always give a lending hand where ever possible
and to dedicate whatever I do to the Praise and Glory of our Lord
Jesus Christ." Brenda and her daughters are currently preparing
for Holy Confirmation at the Bishop's visit next month.
St. Anne's Guild
St. Anne's Guild has taken on an ambitious project to further our
fund raising efforts. So that our parish members can be readily
identified during such events, a utility apron has been designed
showing our church name on the front panel, and a message inviting
questions about our church on the back. These aprons can be worn
not only by those actively involved in selling or other necessary
functions, but also by any member of the parish present at the event.
The aprons will be made in navy blue for the men and a lighter
blue for the ladies. The present plan is to make them in three sizes:
small, medium, and large. To size them properly, we need to have
the chest and waist measurement of each person ordering an apron
so as to select the average measurements for each size. A sample
apron (without the lettering) will be available.
After receiving orders for the aprons, Guild members will prepare
patterns, determine how much fabric will be needed and purchase
all material and supplies. The project will then be turned over
to Linda LaFaye, one of our newest parishioners and already an active
member of St. Anne's Guild, who will arrange for the aprons to be
made.
HOW TO ORDER: Ordering is simple. Just sign the list which will
be posted August 1st. 8th, and 15th in the narthex, along with your
home phone number. You will be contacted for your chest and waist
measurements. Cost per apron cannot be determined until all orders
are in, but we estimate a minimum cost of $6.00 and a maximum of
$10. Before the group order is placed, the exact cost to each parishioner
will be announced. Note: This is the only order for aprons that
will be placed this year. If you have any questions, please call
Pam on 633-2819 or Jean on 657-9164.
CHOIR NOTE
The Choir has added another new member: Kay Meyer's lovely soprano
voice further strengthens our musical group. The Choir is busy preparing
special music for the visit of our Bishop on September 19th. This
is a very important day in the life of the Parish and the Choir
hopes to make it all the more joyous with beautiful anthems and
service music. This is just one more good reason to attend the ten
o'clock mass on September 19 to meet our Bishop and witness his
conferring of the Holy Spirit on those receiving the Sacrament of
Confirmation.
