A prophecy of Isaiah

Who has believed what we have heard? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or comeliness that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God. But he was wounded for our transgressions, upon him was the chastisement that made us whole, and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way, and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
He was oppressed, and afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter... Yet it was the will of the Lord to bruise him; he has put him to grief; when he makes himself an offering for sin... he shall see the fruit of the travail of his soul and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one... make many to be accounted righteous; and he shall bear their iniquities... (excerpted from the Book of Isaiah, Chapter 53)

Building Fund Continues to Grow

At the time this issue of The Messenger went to press, the mercury in the Building Fund Thermometer (in the narthex) was up to the $50,000 mark, and our Treasurer has confirmed the exact balance in the Building Expansion Fund to be $ 55,275.

Two great fund raisers are now underway which should shoot the mercury even higher in the next few months. Of course, the donations of individual parishioners and friends of the parish are still needed, so please give what you can when you can so that our new facilities may become a reality. With the incredible growth of our parish in the past six months, we need the extra space more than ever! Here's a fund raiser sponsored by St. Michael's Men' Club that has proven very popular from the start: A Vacation Raffle as first prize! Picture a peaceful cabin on beautiful Lake Hiwassee in Murphy, North Carolina. What a great spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The winner of this prize will have his or her choice of one week's lodging during the month of August or the month of October 2004. (Sorry, meals, transportation and entertainment are not included.)
Second prize in the raffle is a pair of His & Hers Seiko Watches.
Third prize is a beautiful Seiko Musical Wall Clock.
Fourth prize is ten, yes 10, self-serve car washes.
Fifth prize is an expert car wax at the Car Wash on the Green.

Chances for all these prizes are to be had for a donation of $10 per chance, or six chances for a donation of $50. The drawing will be held the second week of July and you do not need to be present to win.

St. Anne's Guild also has something great in store: A Spring Craft Fair
is scheduled for May 1 on the grounds of the church from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy a time of fun and fellowship. There will be lots of crafters with wonderful wares to sell. Music, food and games will be provided. Chairman Judy McKay advises that there are still spaces available for vendors, should you know anyone who might be interested. Parishioners are encouraged to let Judy know if they are planning to donate handcrafted or other special items for St. Matthew's Parish table(s).
