St. Valentine's Day Party
Sponsored by St. Anne's Guild, this first social event
of the new year proved to be a tremendous success. Despite heavy
rain, about forty persons enjoyed an evening of fellowship and fun,
including
an elaborate buffet dinner of several kinds of lasagna, meatballs,
salads, fruit, rolls and garlic bread, and delicious desserts,
punch and coffee. For those who would rather dance than eat, there
was
music provided by a DJ and many participated in all styles of dance.
Many
donated items were chanced off, adding to the evening's profits
which benefit the Building Expansion Fund. The Providence Community
Center
room was a perfect spot for this type of social event. If you
missed this one, you will want to get your ticket early for next year's
St. Valentine's Party.
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
The annual Pancake Supper, sponsored
by St. Michael's Men's Club, was held on February 24 in the parish
hall. From their chuckwagon, Chefs Jim Belland, Wally Belland,
Art Severn, and Rob Thibodeaux served up platters of pancakes, bacon
and
sausage which were added to a buffet table of sausage, fruit and
other goodies. Again the weather tried to drown out the event, but
about
thirty brave souls ignored the rain and turned out for this traditional
pre-Lent evening of fun and games. Bingo followed the supper and
was enjoyed by those who participated.
Women's Quiet Day
St.
Anne's Guild is sponsoring a Women's Quiet Day (sometimes called
a Retreat) on Saturday, March 6th, to take
the place of their regularly scheduled meeting. The event will
be led
by Fr. Bill Perkins and the theme will be "Women
of the Bible". The hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and participants are invited to bring a luncheon
item. If you plan to attend and have not signed the list in
the narthex, please call Pam McDonough at 633-2819.
St. Michael's Men's Club
The next regular meeting
of the Men's Club will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Country
Kitchen
Restaurant
on Bloomingdale Avenue. (Check with Jim Belland for exact
location). The Club has some interesting projects underway and they
need
more participation from male parishioners. One of their agenda
items is
building a sidewalk extension from the entrance of the church
straight out across the grassy area to the roadway. This will
provide a stable
walkway from the road and will be appreciated especially on
rainy days.
